Data, Big Data and and Buyer Intent or simply Intent Data are terms we are all becoming familiar with. The question is, as sales and marketers, do we know how to get this data and subsequently, what to do when you get it?
I was curious as to whether or not the term 'Buyer Intent Data' was common knowledge amongst fellow professionals, so I fielded the question on Quora.
Thus far, not a huge response, but nonetheless an impressive and detailed response from a user, which is as follows.

One of the recent forms of data doing the rounds is intent data. Simply put, this data gives you information on the intent of individuals when they are searching information online. They could be doing research on a destination or may be finding reviews on a smartphone, whatever it is, they are signaling an interest, or intent, to make a purchase. A key characteristic of this data is that it is time specific or ‘live’. More often than not, it signals a buyer’s urgent need. Intent data can be gathered from various sources such as blogs, social media comments, forums and cookies from search pages, as individuals may signal a future action here.
